Our client was visiting his local supermarket during wet weather. Although this was a large superstore, they had failed to put mats in the appropriate place to reduce the risk of visitors slipping on the increasingly wet floor.

Our client slipped on the vinyl floor surface that was just inside the entrance to the store, but before the point where the mats had been positioned meaning there was a patch of wet and slippery flooring leading to our client’s accident. Liability was denied and CCTV footage was provided, which just showed the accident itself and then cut-off.

However, we had taken instructions from our client who gave a detailed statement to include him sitting nearby after his accident and watching a member of staff place an additional mat to where the Claimant had fallen.

Court proceedings were issued and the Defendant store made offers to settle. The matter was settled for close to £3,000 and in less than 12 months from the date we were first instructed.
